a while ago, i played through the entirety of zelda botw - yes, the entirety

this logically includes:

  • armor
    • base: 62
    • dlc: 22
    • amiibo: 23 (had to cut some ties due to limited inv capacity)
  • photo of every unique item/mob/ore/misc you name it
    • base: 385
    • dlc: 9
  • quests
    • base
      • main: 15
      • side: 70
      • shrine: 39
    • dlc
      • main: 5
      • side: 6
  • 900 koroks

the list could go on forever: house upgrades, memories, horses tamed and so on

and yes, it was very boring & dry at times, especially mapping out every korok twice after not finding the last 5 koroks although the map had them all checked off :) but why would i commit to such a useless achievement - especially without the nostalgia bias of growing up with zelda - anyway?

welllllll unfortunately i cannot find the original post anymore, but for one, i was simply doing it for the completion. no goal in mind at all. after coming across some tips & tricks - especially complaints about there being too many for what you get in return, sigh… - there was one person elaborating that anyone trying to do it for mere completion is taking the wrong approach

nintendo intended the player to find as many as possible, in as little time as possible. the player shouldn’t run across the map for a korok, instead they should be accessible any time, anywhere, any way

the other thing that stood out from the post was explaining that it’s about sightseeing locations you would usually never come across. when taking that specific advice while mindlessly wandering around - picking up korok after korok - 900 didn’t seem difficult at all. it was a trip, and a fun one at that

i imagine doing all these tasks without complaining or a goal in mind i’ve become more patient and appreciative of my surroundings. it’s always “ugh the weather stinks”, “my coworker smells” yada yade yade, but bare- to no appreciation about the little, uplifting things

next time you tackle a game - or anything really - i encourage you to take it easy. life is difficult enough, don’t make it more difficult for no reason
